Sammet's Avantasia-"The Metal Opera part 2" AFM 2002 |
| Finally
I have one of the most awaited albums of the year in my hands. The second part of Tobias
Sammet's project. The remarkable new members of the
Avantasians are Bob Catley (Magnum) & Eric Singer (Kiss). The rest of musicians
are the same from the previous metal opera. The great expectation created by the first album with Michael Kiske's return to heavy metal, has not been so big this time althought he sings great in this new one. For me he still is the great winner (if you allow such expression) with David Defeis (Virgin Steele). When you listen it for the first time, it may sound exactly like the first one, but if you keep on listening, you'll get to like it. This may be a slower more melodic album. The initial track, "The Seven Angels" lasts 14 minutes and almost every singer takes part. A great song wich prepares us for a good album. From here every song is great and most of them like in Avantasia 1. "No return" singed by Tobias and Kiske is as fast a lightning and is one of the best of the album. The Bob Catley ,Tobias duet in "In quest for" is precious and one of the most beautiful passages of this record. "The final sacrifice" is from far the more exciting song of all where Defeis shows all his power and strenght. Maybe my favourite one. the last one is a great ballad, performed by Sharon Den Adel, who once again delights us with her angelical voice. An incredible album, not as "perfect" as Avantasia 1, but it will leave everyone satisfied. Score:8/10 |
