Axenstar-"Perpetual
Twilight" Arise 2002 |
Another swedish band, another power metal abum, once again.
It's really hard to count how many swedish power metal bands have released an album
lately, it seems like it's their national sport. But if most of them don't have their own
identity and just try to clone Helloween, Stratovarius and Rhapsody, Axenstar try to get a
name by themselves. We have to say the album start like many others with the well known
auto pilot doble bass drums and the palm muted guitars, Magnus Eriksson with his unusual
AOR , progressive metal voice really gives a special touch to this swedish quintet. His
melodic voice, free form high pitched screams and falsetos is without disregarding the
rest of the band, the highest note in this cd. It's almost impossible to invent something
on todays power metal scene, but this band tries to show their 80's influences (iron
maiden, saxon or judas priest) with melodic and galloping riffs. But the best songs in
"perpetual twilight" aren't the catchy power metal anthem but the melodic tunes
like the fantastic "Scars" wich leaves you really relaxed after listening to it.
A great track is also "Secrets Revealed" wich shows the "folk" skills
of the band giving a break to their really fast drummer to just play with two acoustic
guitars and a lot of melody. If what you're searching is a completly origianal formula,
them maybe you're searching in the wrong place. But if you want power and melody played by
a band who tries not to follow the usual power metal structures with a great voice and
amaizing solos then this debut album is for you! |
