Single:"And then there was
           silence"
           Virgin 2001

Personally I was very anxious to hear this single, since I was very curious to know how would the new songs be after such a masterpiece as Nightfall in Middle Earth. Itīs true that lots of fans prefer BG old style, the same fans who werenīt completly satisfied with NIME. Well itīs a relief for metal itself, that BG continue developing their musical style in comparison with NIME. But in "An then there was silence" they take their music to a new level with almost no limits for their muscial skills. We can hear Andre & Marcus signature guitar riffs since the IFTOS wich make NIME as great as it is, as well as Tomen fantastic drums... But in ATTWS, the band experimenyts with new sounds, more melodic yet stronger at the same time. All this whitout altering the bandīs bombastic sound.Sounds you only would expect to hear from a filarmonic orquestra or an Opera have been completly "metalized" by Blind Guardian. But the music isnīt the only one wich developed,ATTWS lyrics are from far the best and most worked ones. Itīs about troyan War (enough to know),Hansi has been able to remark the exact facts of the story to adapt it as song in a brilliant way; at such point that it makes you want to learn how to play it as long as it is.Hansiīs voice is as sharp as in NIME, just that now its reinforced by the chorus that supports his performance. The tone changes are apropiate; from strong agressive sounds to symphonic melodies making a perfect introduction for the album. The choruses are excellent, youīll be singing those for a long time I can tell you. But well not everything is perfect,I donīt like the mixing;wich priorizes Hansiīs Vocal performance once again, leaving Tomen excellent drums very low, inclusive the symphonic arrenges cover almost completly the guitars an the bass,I hope this will be solved when the album hits the stores. But ATTWS is just one song, the single also includes "Harvester of Sorrow",a beatiful ballad in which Hansi shows both his writing and singing skills. Finally the single also contains multimedia, "Born in a mourning hall", a live video. If you havenīt had the chance to see Blind Guardian live then with this video you can give yourselve an idea on how this guys perform live. In resume this single is worth every cent, and it lets you see how will "A night at the opera" be. I just canīt wait ,somebody get me a time machine!!
Score:9/10
