Grayscale-"When
the ghosts are gone" Sound Riot 2002 |
This is a charismatic band. Maybe too carismatic; their style
make them "accesible" for everybody even outside the metal audiences. Althought
the sound is excellent and the cover simply unbelivable, this finnish band can't elude the
burden of other bands of the genre, specially Anathema & Crematory wich sound we
recognize in several passages of the album. Greats tracks like "The world today"
or "A dead Season" show how gothic metal can also produce radio hits. Such songs
are extremely catchy and seem to poison it's listeners inviting them to hear it completly
and without pauses. The voice of Lasse Harma doesn't escape the gothic metal cliché and
lacks of originality but accomplishes his difficult mission. This scandinavians mix a wide
range of influences from "Ulver" to "System of a Down"(sic) obtaining
forceful gothic metal with some nice keyboards. It sounds great but it leaves you with
this taste of "modernity". |
