Immolation-"Unholy Cult"
Genre
: Death Metal
Century Media 2002

Finally after their latest album with Metal Blade "Close to a world below" arrives this new album from Robert Vigna & Co, this time thanks to Century Media. It might sound awkard for some people to say but it is one of the best albums of the band. The best of "Unholy cult" is the way it doesn't sound. This isn't the usual Malevolent Creation sound, althought it mantains the basic essence of death metal. This Cd isn't just speed like in most death metal acts todays. The "heavier" sound obtained here shows the band's evolution. The fantastic "Of Martyrs and Men" starts the album with the characteristic Immolation style. If you want to show somebody how death metal should sound, this is the right song to start with. But if this album continues the pattern of antireligious lyrics (always with intelligence) and really agressive music, the technic has also a place here like in "Unholy cult" where a magnific drum intro make us aware of Alex Hernandez marvelous skills (playing that way for more than 8 minutes is amaizing) as much as in "Rival the Eminent" one of the best tracks in the album. Is maybe in this tracks that you realize that yo can "experiment" with new sound and still remain metal. It is maybe too late to call it one of the best albums of 2002 but if it would have been released in 2003 we would be talking of one the year best releases.

Score:9.5/10
