We made an interview to the Mexican band EROGENA, the leading force of today´s progressive metal in Mexico. Here´s what Mike Gonzales, the singer answered in name of the band.

1.-Who where you influenced by?
Well, in Erogena we had all kind of influences, for example, Uriel Salinas likes softer music than the rest of us,like Nacho Cano, or Billy Joel, it hasn´t too much to do with metal, but gives us a wider field to compose. I(Mike Gonzalez) like Pavarotti as much as great metal singers like Bruce Dickinson, Halford, the master Kai Hansen, etc..Gerardo Sanches, loves black & all the classic metal school, like Gammaray,Helloween, etc.. ; Cesar Vizcarra´s biggest influence is Malmsteen´s work & Ivan listens to great drummers like Mike Portnoy and many more from other progressive bands.

2.-Where did the name "Erogena" comes from?
"Erogena" surges based on a selection the first members of the band made some time ago, EROGENA means erotism generator, but we take it more like harmony and positive messages generator,Erogena is harmony itself.

Erogena

3.-Are the lyrics based on a special topic or are just inspiration?
We try to touch today´s and historical themes, all the tracks have a message of harmony and freedom as we try to be as much explicit as possible, always keeping the artistic sense songs like these should have.

4.-What represented to you to perform with Rhapsody & Shaman?
It was one of the greatest experiences the band has ever had, and a great honor to share the stage with 2 of the best progressive metal exponents in the world. The mexican metal scene,is growing, and having the honor to represent our country, was a tremendous responsability, but we were there and gave it everything.

5.-Why, being your album´s name "Earth´s crying", I´ve listened a song with the same name but in spanish ("llora madre tierra")?, ¿Is the album also being released on spanish, or it´s just a bonus track on the album?
Earth´s crying means "el llanto de la tierra" in spanish so what you heard was, the chorus of the title song wich says: " llora madre tierra, llora por tu fin, llora madre tierra , sentencio el guardian ". Besides that, this is the track, the album is being promoted with, and is also a metaforical explanation of what the end of humanity and our mother earth could be, caused by all the abuses the humanity has commited against her.

6.-Do you plan to release your album with any big company, like Nuclear Blast,Spv,Noise, etc.?
This labels are interested on other kinds of music by the moment,we had no contact with them yet, but I can say, that we´re talking with a couple of labels here in Mexico, wich have 1000 times, more distribution possibilities, than those you mentioned. Nuclear Blast, SPV etc... are great companys dedicated to promote and distribute, metal and other underground bands, but Erogena´s goal is to go beyond headbangers, to become a band anyone, no matter what they listen, can recognize as a great band. Actually we´re on a new label called: "KAY´NAH Producciones", going from one proyect to the other and knocking doors big time.

7.-Is there any intention to follow your carreer in latin america or are you trying to proyect yourselves to Europe, where this kind of music has a wider audience?
Erogena wants to be known everywhere, so we don´t pretend to be recognized only in America or Europe, but everywhere; proof of that is, that you already know us, and europe is already a market where "Earth´s crying" is being considered. So this is the beginning of something wich can grow the way we want to.

8.-Are you planning any tour (america or europe)?
At the time we have a pretty tight schedule here in Mexico, but there are plans to tour next year. We´ll tell you dates and places when time comes.

9.-Any final words?
We thank you for finding our address and making us this interview, Erogena has lots to give yet and is the beginning of something important here in the latinamerican metal scene, thank you for your support.
