Krisiun are:

Moyses Kolesne - Guitar
Alex Camargo - Bass/Vocals
Max Kolesne - Drum
We contacted brazilian death metal band Krisiun. With a new album coming out very soon we had many questions to make. Special thanks to EDUARDO ALMEIDA for his help in making this interview possible. Here's what Max Kolesne answered to our questions!

- Most people know you because of your album "Black Force Domain" but you had already a cult following before that release. How much did you have to struggle to conquer a name in the death metal world scene? Tell me about those early days. Who supported you?
In 1990 we released our first demo tape "Evil age", in 1992 we recorded the second one called ``The Plague", wich became the split album "Curse of the evil one" later on in the same year. In 1993 we recorded our first cd, actually a mini cd. of 22 min. length, called "Unmercyful order", wich had very poor production and bad quality. In 1995 we did our first album "Black Force domain". This is the album that opened the doors for Krisiun, we signed with Gun Rec. in Germany and finally started to build up a following abroad, touring all over europe, then later on in the US.
In the beggining of the 90s, when we started the band, things were really hard, we were broke and had no money, not even to buy drum sticks or picks, but we never gave up, we kept struggling and little by little we have gained respect in the metal scene, every new album, every show we do is a step ahead to conquer more respect and new fans, its been more than a decade of loyalty to the real extreme, satanic death metal, no matter what was the trend or what’s the trend gonna be, we never change, we are true warriors in service of metal.

- Are you satisfied with all you've done so far or you think you can become even bigger than what you're now?

The battle never ends, and our main concern is to develop musically, release killer albums and stay alive, playing and touring. I believe we have a lot to grow, and in the future death metal and extreme music in general, will be much more popular and big.

- You're older brother introduced you to metal. Is he part of Krisiun in any way? and What does he think of the band?

Our oldest brother is a big fan of bands like AC/DC, Deep Purple, Jimmi Hendrix, etc. And so do we. He really respects what we do and is proud of his crazy three brothers. Every time we meet him we get drunk, smoke a lot of pot and listen the old classics together.

- If there's a country in southamerica that can proudly look back and behold their past is Brazil. Since the great Chakal or Sarcofago, Brazil has always been a land for brutal metal. Althought the most "notorius" band was Sepultura (who became later a cartoon of themselves), there's a lot of bands like Rebaelium, Ophiolatry or Abhorrence (besides you of course) who can continue the legacy of those great bands mentioned above. Wich other bands can you emphasize from todays brazilian metal scene?
There are many killers bands in Brazil, like Ancestral Malediction, Infested Blood, Funeratus, Decomposed God, Torture Squad, Subtera, Nephast, Abominattion, Obskure, Impirius Malevolence and many others.

- To live from music is pretty hard, even more when that music is metal. Do you dedicate 100% of your time to the band or you still have to work on something else besides metal?
Nowadays we can make a living from the band. Since "Conquerors of Armageddon", things got a little better for us and we don't need dayjobs anymore. But for many years we had to have normal jobs to survive and keep the band.

- Most of todays brutal metal bands were influenced by bands like Slayer, Venom or Morbid Angel. What do you think (musically) of them now?

Personally I don't like the new Slayer's "God hate us all", but I think they can do some really killer albums in the future, specially now with Lombardo back in the band. The new Morbid Angel is a great album, and the latest Venom album "Ressurection" in my opinion is fuckin killer, a great metal album.

- I was a SEPULTURA fan of the "Morbid Visions" era but they died for me short after that album. What do you think of that band?
Well I was a big fan too, "Schizophrenia" and "Beneath the remains" are classics of metal. I really respect them, but I don't like their new stuff.

- Wacken Open Air is nowadays the most important Festival in the world. You had the chance to play in Wacken 2001. How was to be part of such event? And what do you think about it in comparison to the other festival you took part on ( like Milwaukee, Fuck the commerce, X-mass, With Full force, etc)?
It was amazing! Playing in all those great metal festivals gave us the chance to show our music to larger crowds, having a bigger exposure and increase our legion of fans. But for us every show is important, we can play in a small place for 200 people or in a big festival for 40.000 people, we gonna give 100% in both, to make a killer set.

   KRISIUN "AGELESS VENOMOUS"

- You're currently producing a new album. Do you have a name already for it? Will it be even brutal than your previous release or will you try others sounds? Will there be any special guests?
Our new album will be released between August and September, and its called "Works of Carnage". The production on the new album is much heavier than our previous release and the songs are more brutal, faster, pure satanic death metal. It's our revenge, all the betrayers will die, all this trendy new shit will die before the wrath of Works of carnage!

- Today there's a bunch of bands who called themselves melodic death metal (Arch Enemy, Dark Tranquility, In Flames, etc) What do you think of this bands. Do you think this is the future of Death metal?

I don't like those bands, and I don't think they are death metal. Death metal was born in the 80's inspired by classics like "Reign in Blood", "Darkness descends", "Altars of madness", etc... True death metal is supposed to be evil, brutal, fast and agressive.
Those melodic bands are trendy and have nothing to do with death metal.

- Do you have any plans of touring southamerica after the release of your new CD?
We really hope we can do a big south american tour, we have only play in Chile in 2001, and it was fuckin killer, hopefully on the next tour we're gonna have the chance to play in the other countries like Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, etc.

- You're considered the biggest ambassador of true metal from latin america today. How do you take this title and do you think people around the world know enough about the latinamerican scene?
I think the latinoamerican metal scene has a lot to grow, there are many killer bands in south america, its just a matter of time for some of this bands to establish their names in the world metal scene. We are really proud to hold the banner of latinoamerican metal flag, Hail Hermanos Latinos!

- Thanks a lot! If there would be more brutal bands like Krisiun the future of metal would be saved. Any final words for the readers of Mighty Warrior in Peru?
Thank you so much for the words and for the support, we are looking forward to play in Peru. Un saludo a todos nuestros hermanos latinos. Hail south america! Los verdaderos diablos del metal.
