Fabrizio Romani: Guitars
Roberto Potenti : Bass
Eddy Antonini: Keyboards
Carlos Cantatore: Drums

We contacted the italian power metal band SKYLARK. More specific, their italian/peruvian drummer Carlos Cantatore. He talked about many things including his southamerican background. We want to thank Fernando Lopez for his help on contacting Carlos. Here's what the drummer answered

Tell me How did you enter Skylark?

Well I went to a concert at Turin in1998… some mutual friends told them I was a drummer and Brodo asked me if I would be interested in auditioning for Skylark 'cause their drummer wanted to leave the band as soon as possible. So I learned to play doble bass drums in a month and played "Light pt.1", "The answer", "Twilight", "Princess of the snow" and "Fear of the moon" for them.

If I´m right, your first live gig with the band was the "Rock Machina" festival in Spain in the year 2000, How was that first live appereance for you?
My first live gig with Skylark happened the 7th May 1999 at Mulino Pub, in Italy. I was fine and common mental status before the gig but when we finished the concert I met the fans and I realized that something was different than my other old bands: we were famous and stimate dudes by these guys! It was amazing and It is already amazing!

You born in Cuzco - Peru, but you lived all your life in italy, how was that?
I was adopted when I was 13 months by Italian parents because my original parents couldn't support a child, my father gone away leaving my mother alone with me, so She opted for the adaptation. I don't care about my original parents, I can't feel something bad or good, I always lived with my present parents and I love them like every son loves their parents.

Since when do you play drums, and why did you start playing Heavy Metal?
I started listen to Heavy metal music after a school promotion when I was 11: I asked my parents to buy an album with a skeleton on the cover (Iron Maiden)…My Dad bought Live After Death Video and I felt crazy when I saw the drum kit and the drum lines! " I wanna play the drums" I said……Thanks to my friend I received my first Drum kit (It was a jazz set) when I was 12 and my parents bought me a new drum kit when I was 13 because they saw my real interesting in it and my love for it (I was spending all my afternoon time on the drums). Now I'm 24 but It seems yesterday!

Could you tell me something about the forthcoming Skylark album?
We are working hard to it, Eddy has written a lot of songs with different musical situations, when I listen to it I was really happy to realize that our new album won't be too power metal like all the audience think It will gonna be! There are songs with classic Skylark style in it and songs that sound rocker like a Europe album or Bon Jovi album; the melody is the  master

but the arrangements are built with the genius like in Dragon's secrets. My drum parts are really differents, I enjoyed writing them and recording them!

The band will play in March in the Jack Biker's Pub, and your last concert was the 22th of June in 2002, It´s been a long time, why is that?
We started the recording sessions on April 2002 and after the gig in Germany we continued that; we are spending a lot of time on this album because our budget has increased after Princess'Day CD, we worked 'till September and then we took some months off because we were very tired to live in studio! We have no new album out now and the March gig is only for friends and Fans.

I know that the band came to Southamerica (Chile) some time ago, is there any plans of a southamerican tour with the new album?
We didn't go to Southamerican Tour for some organizing troubles and actually we haven't received other bookings, I hope It will happen because I want to meet Southamerican fans, there are a lot of guys that write me from this country.

Maybe you can come to Peru, and make a concert, could that be posible?

We will go every where we are requested but at first we need a plan of action: Money, Travel, Accomodation etc… you know.

Well, thanks for the interview, any final message to the peruvian fans?
Thanks to you man for the interview, without guy like you all this it be unpossible! A special HELLO to all Peruvian dudes that believe in our music and support the Italian metal scene, stay strong and keep the faith in what you believe!!! BYE!!!!
