Therion-"Live in Midgard"
Genre
: Gothic Metal
Nuclear Blast 2003

Therion is one of my favourite bands so don't expect an objective review. I hope you can read beyond my compliments and realize that Therion is one of the best bands of today's metal "mainstream". There isn't a better song to start a Therion live album than "Ginnungagap" from their latest album "Secret of the runes"simply overwealming. Then "Invocation Of Naamah" taped during their presentation in Bogota, Colombia. The latin american fans have always been recognized because of their stamina and energy and this track shows why. Another great song "Birth of Venus Illegitima" follows, one of my favourites. "Enter Vril-Ya" is the next one with basic yet effective riffs  that any heavy metal fan would enjoy just like in "The Wings Of The Hydra" simplicity and strength.  Also included in this album is "Riders Of Theli" a great song where Christofer Johnsson shows one of his many voices, because he's capable of singing many styles and always flawlessly. Such is the case in "The Return" o "Baal Region" where he sings kinda "black metal" or like in "Flesh of the Gods" where he sing high pitched heavy metal tunes. A really great singer and even better composer. Another great thing about this album are the cover versions included; "Seawinds" from Accept (already released in "Crowning of Atlantis") and "Summer night city" from Abba (incluided in Nuclear Blast's   "Tribute to ABBA" and as a bponus track in "Secret of the Runes"). Many old classics are also included like  "The Rise Of Sodom and Gomorrah", "To Mega Therion" or the excellent "Beauty In Black" one of the first "hits" of the band. This album complilates a bunch of characteristic  Therion songs; an emblematic band that evolves constantly. Personally I think this 24 tracks presented here are a great sample of this already 15 years old band. It also a great excuse to start listenning to Therion if you don't know them yet.
Score:9.5/10
