For original member Mark keeping Riot together has always been his main focus, shifting through endless line-up changes and labels to continue to bring his and his band members music to their extremely loyal fans. Riot's latest opus "Sons Of Society" continues Reale's musical imagery with conceptual lyrics over classic metal music creating the most proficient Riot album to date. From the opening track "Snake Charmer" to the closing "Promises", "Sons Of Society" rum the gamut from songs dealing with politics, liberty, media, and government control. The inspiration both lyrically and musically is conjured by importing the past into the present to create something quite unique and powerful. Riot has always been about diversity in their sound and since their inception, this band has been looking for new ways of getting their music across, apparent on their 11 studio albums, two EPs and 3 live albums.
Riot originated in the basement of Mark Reale's home in Brooklyn NY in the summer of 1976. By 1977 they had recorded their first album "Rock City" for New York's Firesign Records who managed to obtain various licensing deals throughout the world. Capitol Records quickly signed Riot, who soon entered the studio to record "Narita" which would be released in 1979. It was in 198 1, Riot released what is considered by most fans to be the band's most definitive album "Fire Down Under". After being released from their deal with Capitol, the album was eventually released by Elektra Records.
Soon after, vocalist Guy Speranza unexpectedly left, and was replaced by blues inspired vocalist, the legendary Rhett Forrester. Riot would go on to record "Restless Breed", "Riot In America" and release the "Riot Live" EP. At the conclusion of a successful tour with Kiss, Mark decided to let things cool off for a while, The break would be short lived when two years later, they reconvened for a reunion tour. They soon returned to New York to record with new vocalist Tony Moore and for new label CBS, for whom they released "Thunder Steel" and "Privilege of Power. These records would bring the band to new heights in both Japan and Europe, but failed to make an impact in the US As a result Riot would sign directly with Sony Japan. And so, with the release "Night Breaker", "Me Brethren Of the Long House" and the critically claimed 1998 album "Inishmore', the current Riot incarnation was born.
Enter the summer of '99: Riot are set to release " Sons Of Society", an in your face Metal tour de force that begins the next chapter in the continuing Riot saga.
Due to public demand, on February 9th, 1999 Metal Blade records will release for the first time in their original form on CD two Riot classics: Restless Breed and Fire Down Under. Immediately after that will be the release of these other Riot classics: Born In America, Live In Japan, Nightbreaker, and Brethren Of The Longhouse. Look for a new studio album from Riot later in 1999.
