AVALANCH

JEREZ, CÁDIZ

In December Avalanch came back to Andalusia and performed a mini-tour (just 3 gigs: Córdoba, Sevilla & Jerez) to promote their latest album "El Ángel Caído" released in March. Salón Don Guido in Jerez had been considered for this tour where about 200 people came to see the band. Well maybe a larger stage for them to perform on would have been nice! But did this make any difference to the band's performance? Not at all, or if it did it certainly didn't show.

Taking up most of the available space for the drum kit and backdrop, the band hit the stage at 22:30 and by the time Victor came out to sing the opening lines the roar was gigantic, and would stay that way throughout most of the night. There was a beautiful blue background on the stage, just like the fallen angel on the cover of their last album, I really liked it. The band played mostly from their new album, with a few older tracks thrown in. The audience simply explodes after the first notes of masterpieces like "Cid", "Tierra De Nadie", "Vicio Letal", "El Ángel Caído", "Torquemada" (which got the best crowd reaction), "Vientos Del Sur", "Excalibur" and the great singalong "Por Mi Libertad". All the fans in the venue already sang all text passages of the latest album which was released nine month ago. They already learned it by heart. The sound was o.k. although the guitar could have been turned even louder and the vocals could've been a bit more prominent in the mix, too. Avalanch continued playing some new tracks like "Xana", "Delirios De Grandeza", "Corazón Negro" and the wonderful ballad "Antojo De Un Dios" which sounded incredible. Drummer Alberto Ardines played incredibly and especially Alberto Rionda impressed, playing exactly like on the studio works. Victor García did a great job on the older songs and, as always, he was all over the place head-banging to every minute of the set. In comparison to their show in May, this time no cover version was performed.

Brief 2 hours were over, which offered another great show of a fantastic live band that has ascended to top of Spain Metal throne. Avalanch already entered the list of bands whose gigs you can't miss if you are a real metal fan. -Review & photos by Marina-
