Edguy is
a German band created in 1992 in the small town of Fulda by Jens, Dirk, Tobias
and Dominick Storch, who were then 14 years old. Their two demos having been
unsuccessful, they decided to change support and use CD...
They produce Savage Poetry and sell it by mail. The 1000 CDs are quickly sold,
which shows the success of the album. It enables the band to get a deal with
AFM Records in order to record their first "true" album.
This album should be soon again available, in a 2-CDs edition : one with the
original recording, and one with the same songs, rearranged...
A pretty
simple album, that directly delivers the compositions with strength... Edguy
already show themselves as talented, and each song says a message (explained
in the sleeve to help understanding). However, this album doesn't get a great
success when it is released...
I discovered Edguy with this album, and I immediately loved it. The music
is ear-catching, and melodies stay in mind after the first earring. It is
not yet a mature album, but Edguy already put themselves among the fur great
Power Metal bands.

Ten days before the band enters studio to record Vain Glory Opera, the drummer, Dominik Storch, leaves the band. The recording is thus done with the help of Frank Lindenthal, who however decides not to join the band. When it is released, this album meets a huge success (50 000 CDs sold around the world !) and the band popularity grows up fast. Meanwhile, the band finds a drummer with Felix Bohnke, as well as a bass player : Tobias Exxel (Squealer) and gives a few concert, also showing themselves as a big band on stage, very delirious also...
The sound is really excellent on this album, the richer compositions always reach their goal, and the power is still here... The band really acquired its musical maturity and found its own sound. Note the appearance of Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian) on 'Out of Control' and 'Vain Glory Opera', as well as a guitar solo from Timo Tolkki (Stratovarius) on 'Out of Control'.

With a stable formation and the acquired maturity, Edguy releases a very well-finished album, which is more-or-less a concept album on the theme of way to live. One more time, compositions are ear-catching, riffs are powerful and choruses increase the effect of ravaging melodies... A must-have album !
