BLITZKRIEG...a name which many people know...from a cover by the band metallica. Unfortunatley, most people don't know much about this band (at least here in the U.S.)...just the fact that metallica covered their song years ago.
This band provides classic metal like no other. Through line-up changesd and internal politics, this band has survived and are set to release a new album "Absolute Power" upon us soon. Anthony spoke with Tony Liddel about the band, their history, and their future. Enjoy.
Intro by - Chris O'Brien
U.F.-First off, I’d like to welcome you back into the Blitzkrieg camp…it’s
been a while. I’d like to start off this interview from your musical past,
and work our way up to the present.
What influences you as a guitarist? :
Interview by - Anthony DeLuca
Though from a song point of view, bands like Judas Priest, Black Sabbath and Van Halen are classics, hearing riffs like Painkiller, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Running with the devil, make me want to pick my guitar up and play . I like a good solo, but i love a good song.
U.F.-Were you in any bands BEFORE joining BLITZKRIEG? If so, what were they;
what led to your joining BLITZKRIEG?
Tony-That question should of been answerd in the CD booklet in Unholy
Trinity. There was no mention of anybody elses bands , no Pariah, Blind
Fury, Mandora, Warrior, Whatever, Mae West or anything else.
Not much of a family tree then was it ?. It was supposed to answer questions
like this.
I was in a
couple of bands, a band i was in just before Blitzkrieg , Saratoga
(1986-1988) was a four piece with some friend`s of mine, everything was
going fine then they decided in there infinate wisdom that it was`nt going
to work and we slit up. Then 2 days later Brian said a line up of
Blitzkrieg he had put together was playing a local gig and would i like to
go check em` out and give him support.
After seeing them play i told him he would do better if he got a new band.
At this time he had Glenn S. Howes in the band and to me Glenn was the only
person worth keeping. We spoke about it for a while then he said, fuck it,
lets make a good version of Blitzkrieg. You see, Brian had, had a couple of
line up`s of Blitzkrieg, but they`d not been very good, that is, apart from
J.D. Binnie`s line up. Binnie was an exellent song writer but some how they
lost the plot and he and Brian parted company. They only recorded one demo
with 5 songs on it, really good songs infact. But the `Binnie` line up only
lasted a very short time and only one gig.
We got Glen Carey on bass and after one or 2 other auditions Brian phoned
Gary Young to see if he was interested. Getting Gary Young to play drums was
a bonus for us, he was a pro, a real drummer, someone who had done it all,
but most of all like i just said, he was a REAL DRUMMER and we could`nt fail
to sound heavy with him in the band.
Gary Young is what made Blitzkrieg sound heavy at that point in time,,,,,,,,
NOTHING ELSE.
U.F.-So, in 1988 you joined the band. How were all those gigs BLITZKRIEG
played? Any memorable moments (after all, it was a reformed BLITZKRIEG)?
Tony-We did`nt start playing live until 1989, but we never did alot of
show`s coz we had to get them ourselves and times were hard .
Also it was hard to get to European gig`s like Germany or Holland as the
band had been out of the public focus for so long. The band might of had
several differant line up`s but, had`nt recorded or released any kind of
official product untill we did `The Ten Years of Blitzkrieg` mini album in
1991. So that was 6 years with no release, i think we were lucky to get a
deal at all when i think back to it.
We did our share of gig`s though and we were always accepted well. Our first
ever gig with the line up from T.Y.O.B.was at a place that was closing
down, they had the receivers in at the time it was the last night anything
was going to be played there.
We had that many people in the place, the bar tab got them out of debt. They
did`nt charge us for the hire of the place or anything, then they gave us
some crates of beer and sent us on our way while they rebuilt the place.
We played shit , , but it was a good night. September 29th 1989 i still have
it on video it`s really funny.
U.F.-The Album “Ten Years of Blitzkrieg” was released later in 1990.
Unfortunately, there were problems with its sales & distribution. What
happened? What songs originally appeared on this mini-album?
Tony-The Ten years of Blitzkrieg mini album was done just as a 10th
anniversary project, nothing more, it was released on RoadRacer records
under license without us knowing. It was just another licensed release to
them and they made no effort in promoting it.
Neat records were having some kind of difficulty in 1990 and 1991 and as far
as i know did`nt release anything on there own lable for almost 2 years.
The track listing for T.Y.O.B. was : Buried alive, Blitzkrieg, Side 2 (as it
was released on vynyl as well as CD) Night howl, The sentinel and Nocturnal
vision.
Brian has a thing about nostalgia, momento`s and things like that. He does
tend to delve into the past quite alot, re-useing lyrics from old songs and
wanting to re-record old songs. It`s not something i like doing coz there
always VERY dated tunes, there must be 5 or even 6 recordings of the song
`Blitzkrieg` and i have several versions (differant music) of songs like, `
Night howl` Easy way out, Court in the act and `Buried alive. I have to
admit, i would rather write a new tune than use a 5 or 10 year old lyrics,
but it`s something Brian likes to do, maybe he just gets attached to some of
his lyrics and want`s to see them put to a good use,,,,,,,,only Brian can
tell us that.
U.F.-During this time drummer, Gary Young was involved in an accident leaving
him unable to play. Why wasn’t Gary replaced?
Tony-Gary lost a couple of toes in an accident and damaged his ankle, he
was a double bass player, all his heavy work was done using his feet, i
think he just stopped playing altogether.
I havent seen Gary in some years and the last thing anyone told me was that
he was`nt playing at all. A shame really, coz he`s the best drummer ive ever
worked with and i really liked Gary.
The band was drifting apart before
Gary`s accident, Gary, Glen and Glenn had decided they`d had enough and
asked me to join them.(well, Gary did)
At first i was going to do both job`s, play with Blitzkrieg (Brian) and play
with them, but it would of been too hard for me to of done at the time, so i
opted to work with Brian and Blitzkrieg.
With people not coming to rehearsals and doing there own jobs, there`s
always been alot of talk in Blitzkrieg, but not much work.
The thing i did`nt like about Gary Young was that he would have band
meetings without all the band being there, they did`nt have the ball`s to
say anything to your face.
Blitzkrieg was left for almost 2 years and i was surprised when Brian
suggested we start writing Unholy Trinity as i`d thought that it was the end
of Blitzkrieg , for me anyway.
U.F.-Under AMAZING pressure, “Unholy Trinity” was released. Please elaborate on
this recording. Was it an easy task recording all the guitar work yourself?
Tony-As far as writing was concerned, myself and Brian decided to see
what we could do on our own, we already had four or five song`s written and
thought we could write 3 or four more and get some friends in to help record
them.
We were lucky to get Sean Taylor and Dave Anderson to play them, Sean had
recorded A time of change`s, back in 1985 and was/still is, an amazing
drummer, we just got carried away, we kept writing song after song then the
next thing we knew was we had 14 songs.
The whole album was recorded in about 7 days (approx) it went down easy.
The hardest part was doing all the solo`s, harmony`s and lead guitar fill`s,
as i`m a Rhythm guitar player i was in way over my head. I think there is
over 35-40 lead guitar part`s/fill`s on the Unholy Trinity album and there
was only 5 solo`s that i did`nt do, so it was a testing time for me and made
me want to stop playing guitar altogether.
I remember one day in the studio Cronos was there while i was losing my
head, he laughed and said to me `shut the fuck up and play it` we all
started laughing and i laid a good solo down, but it was hard for me to do.
Ive had alot to do in Blitzkrieg`s recording`s, on the Ten years of
Blitzkrieg CD i did all the rhythm guitar`s (20 rhythm tracks, as i alway`s
double track each rhythm guitar part), Glenn S. Howes just did his solo`s .
Also on the recording of ` Ten, i did all the rhythm guitars again ( thats
44 rhythm tracks) coz Phil Millar had`nt botherd himself to learn the songs,
but still got full credit on the album, as did Glenn S. Howes.
Maybe coz i usually write all the music in Blitzkrieg it was easier and
quicker for me to record them,,, i don`t know, but what i did know was that
no matter how good the other guitarist in the band was, i always had to do
there work.
Then they used to wonder how they could`nt do it live.
It was obvious, they had`nt learned it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, it was easy to
figure out.
Some of the outtakes from the session will be put on our web site soon, were
also putting some rare shit from years ago on there, tunes people did`nt
even know existed, so keep a look out on our web site.
http://www.absolute-blitzkrieg.com/
U.F.-I must commend you for your guitar work on this album…it’s FUCKING
AMAZING!!!!
Tony-Thank you, your the ONLY person who has, i was only credited on the
album as ` Tony J. Liddle : Guitar. then further down it say`s `Gav Taylor
: Guitar solo`s and harmonies, Gav, played 4 solo`s and a harmony guitar
phrase, Kieth Nichol played 1 solo.
I did the other 35 or so and i did 4 guitar rhythm tracks on every song,
as well as the acoustic guitar part`s and backing vocals (thats 68 rhythm
tracks and 35 solo`s in 2 days), i don`t think anybody know`s its me to be
honest and i don`t know why Brian wrote the credits that way, as he knew
what i had done in the studio coz he was there sitting next to me the whole
time..
We had fallen out in the studio as i felt i had more than my share of work
to do, we had taken another guitarist in to the studio to do half of the
guitar parts, but for some reason he could`nt do it and left before
recording was finished. And by Brian not only not giving me full credit for
what i did, but to give the credit to someone else, is something i can`t
explain, you`ll have to ask Brian about that one i think.
It pissed me off in a big way at the time, but it`s nearly 7 years ago since
the album was released and 9 years since being recorded and i don`t mind as
much now, but it still fucks me off when i think about it.
It`s something ive never spoken to Brian about, he might have an honest
explination for it, but shit happen`s and usually to me.(i was the only one
on the cover of `Ten years of `Blitzkrieg that you could`nt see, but it was
an exellent picture of the other lads, but i was`nt there when a photo was
picked, the other 4 were though, so it start`s to make sense) If your not
there when CD sleeves and album artwork is chosen and written, you can
expect fuck all)
Ive spent my time in Blitzkrieg over the years trying to do what is best for
the band, but only succeeding in making other people appear good.
People get worried about there own ego, if they think someone else is going
to take some of the focus away from them, then they have to have them
removed or ignored. ` Do you think the band is just unlucky to of had so
many line up changes ? There has to be a common denominator, it`s called
EGO !.
Some people will go through life being spoon fed if they can get away with
it, i can hold my hand up and say i was always prepared and ready in
Blitzkrieg, no one has ever had to wait for me to learn or do something, but
i have had to wait plenty of times for other people.
U.F.-Is “Hair Trigger” a nod to Brian’s SATAN years?
Tony-In a way it is, Brian had used an old Satan song ` Pull the trigger,
on the A time of changes album, so when i`d written the music and came up
with the title and the chorus, he decided to make it a follow on from`Pull
the trigger, we were going to join up both songs live, but never got around
to it for some reason.
Its a cool tune, one from the album that i really like, my favourite song
from the Unholy Trinity album is, Unholy Trinity. An excellent song to play
live, as is ` After dark. 2 songs i think Brian exelled in, his lyrics can
be awesome at times, try reading them sometime. (both songs lyrics were
taken from unreleased `old` songs)
U.F.-What do the songs “Zip” and “Return of the Zip” signify?
Tony-Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha,,, when we were rehearsing and recording
the Unholy Trinity album, Sean Taylor kept busting Zip`s (zippers).
The zip on his bag, his jeans, his coat infact anything with a zip on it got
bust.
So that`s all you ever heard him say,` aaaaaaarrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhh,
fucking Zip`.
It became a joke word, something that made us laugh (although i know it
does`nt sound too funny now) then we played it backwards and it became `
Return of the zip.
As simple as that , it made us laugh and there was`nt alot to laugh about in
the studio at the time, so when you got the chance you took it.
U.F.-How did the band manage to get Cronos and Ian Mac (VENOM & CRONOS
respectively) to perform on this album? Did BLITZKRIEG tour with VENOM in
promotion of this album?
Tony-We got Cronos to sing on the album coz he was always there when we
were recording, we`d look around and there he`d be pulling face`s or just
joking around so we thought we`d do something together.
We`d finished recording the album and had nothing for him to sing or play on
so Dave Wood, who owned Neat Records said we should do a Venom song.
We agreed to do Countess bathory, Ian Mac came in and did the drums and it
all took a couple of hours. Cronos is fucking crazy, he`s very much like
Ozzy, evil, sinister and funny all rolled into one.
We did`nt tour but we did do one gig together in England.
U.F.-Why was it such a long time before “Unholy…” was released?
Tony-You tell me, ,,,, i still don`t know why.
We`ve had all kinds of excuses, but, it worked out ok in the end, when
Unholy Trinity came out it was just right , i think Heavy metal was starting
to get its shit together, Judas Priest`s Painkiller was big at the time,
Pantera were making a big name for themselve`s and some of the things we
were doing were being appreciated especially by the European market,
Germany, Holland e.t.c. oh, and Japan, we had the 3rd most played song on
Japanese rock radio, Hair Trigger (i still have the print out from Burnn
magazine).
We got joint 3rd place in an album review in Germany`s Heavy oder was`
metal magazine beating, Iron Maiden, Y&T, AC/DC & Anthrax, which was
surprising the shit out of us.
It got reviewed and was givin` 9 out of 10 and 11 out 12. Then had tracks
taken from it and put on various metal compilation CD`s.
The next 12 month`s were possibly the best time Blitzkrieg had, had other
than when the mighty Metallica did a cover of the bands anthem Blitzkrieg
back in 1984.
We took the band over sea`s for the first time and released 2 album`s back
to back, something the band had never done before or as a fact since.
A little bit more promotion and a bit more band focus and comitment and we
could of achieved a little more.
Then Mr Ego reared his ugly head and fucked it up for everybody,,,,,,,
thing`s change, but then again thing`s stay the same.
U.F.-“Ten Years…” was re-released in 1996 under the name “Ten”. It contained
5 new songs, along with the 5 original. The album cover shows THE BIRD OF
ARMAGGEDON. Is this the official BLITZKRIEG mascot? What does it signify?
Tony-Yes the bird is the bands mascot, in the book of armageddon the great
bird will come down and destroy the planet (or something like that, Brian
would be better at answering that).
The original line up used it on the first single way back in 1981 then Brian
decided to use it on A time of change`s and from then on.
It has people/fans talking about all the time, like Iron maiden do about
Eddie.
The new bird look`s fucking awesome,,,,,,kinda` like a bio-mechan-oid, part
man, part bird and part machine.
Ive wrote a song about it to go on the new album ` a song called `DV8R`.
It`s all about a metal, cybernetic bird. Nice little tune.
I`m glad Brian keeps using the bird, it not only looks cool but, gives the
fans something to identify the band by, i love it.
U.F.-Steve Ireland & Sid White played bass guitar and drums respectively.
During the tour for this album, BLITZKRIEG used different bass guitarists
and drummers. Why?
Tony-Sid White was never in Blitzkrieg, he was a session drummer, a friend
of Steve Ireland`s nothing more and i have NEVER seen him since we recorded
`Ten`.
Steve Ireland did`nt do the gig`s to promote the album coz he did`nt want
to, he wanted to play in a pub band at home and not go to Germany.
It was nearly Christmas so he did`nt want to go, but, Steve was the only
member of the band not a father, he lived on his own and had no family, he
had no kid`s.
Infact he did`nt even have a girlfriend thats how sad he was.
This in its self is what sealed the break up of the 1996 line up, having to
get other people in to do someone elses job.
Steve was a good bass player, but, i never liked him and still don`t, he
thought that he`d done one album and he was a rock star,,,.a big mistake.
His saying in life is,,`what can you do for me.`
He`s still playing the same pub`s doing the same cover songs infront of
40-50 people a week to pay for beer,,,what a shame...
Sometimes it`s better to keep your mouth shut.
U.F.-What led to your departure from BLITZKRIEG? Was your split from the band
on good terms?
Tony-My continued arguments with Steve Ireland and my reluctancy to do
other people`s work is what started my departure from Blitzkrieg.
Brian and Steve had started to form a bond together and were becoming really
good friend`s.
Steve had gotten this cocksucker ass hole as our new manager, he was
useless, i said he was a thief and a liar, (i was prooven right).
I was supposed to trust this guy with my career and my money
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
NOT A FUCKING CHANCE.
I was starting to feel alienated, ignored and things i said were taken out
of context.
I also felt i was doing more than my share of the work while someone else
was taking all the credit.
So whatever Steve said, i feel that Brian agreed with and i was fired on
return to England by both Brian and Steve.
Steve wanted to turn Blitzkrieg into a Jazz/Pop band, i did`nt and so we
did`nt get along.
I stayed friend`s with Brian, (it may surprise you , but being friend`s and
working together are completely differant) but to this day have not spoken
to Steve,,,,and i don`t want to either,,,,,,,,,, he`s a fucking ass hole.
I was`nt supposed to play at all at the end of 1996 as i`d had a motorcycle
accident and had damaged my left arm,(i have a permenantly numb 3rd finger
from the middle joint ) but it was a good promotion for the band to do the
gig`s in Germany so i went, Steve said we should do it and he did`nt go.
We came back and i was fired, you figure it out, i cant, it doesnt make
sense.
To be honest though, i told Gav and Phil in Germany in between show`s that i
was leaving when we got back as i felt i`d had enough, Gav and Phil
convinced me to stay so i did, only to come back and have Steve and Brian
fire me ( I would like to here what Brian has to say on the matter and if he
thinks now that he did the right thing, it would make interesting reading.)
I`ll get you an interview with him to find out.
Brian seen through Steve and fired him soon after me and after along while
put the line up for The mist`s of avalon together.
Again though, it worked out ok, coz i would never of recorded The mist`s of
avalon,
it`s not metal enough for me, there`s too many instrumental`s and slow
tunes. It`s not what i think a Blitzkrieg album should sound like.
It was always a puzzle to me why Brian worked with Glenn, as Glenn had been
the main reason why the 1990 T.Y.O.B. line up had broken up.
I`ve since become quite friendly with Glenn, albeit through email alone,
but at least were talking now.
The end was`nt a good time to remember, we did`nt like each other, but
that`s what the music industrie is all about, just look at Van Halen, Black
Sabbath, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, the list goes on and on. We wer`nt
the only ass hole`s being childish to each other. I prooved my point though,
the last Blitzkrieg album sucked,,,,,,,,,,,,,and i was`nt on it.
U.F.-What were you up to after leaving BLITZKRIEG? Did you form or play in
any other bands?
Tony-I tried to form a couple of bands after Blitzkrieg but, people gave
me the impression that i was going to have to make them famous, something i
was`nt willing to do. You have to work hard in a band and not get carried by
other people, i was sick and tired of doing other peoples work in
Blitzkrieg, so i`d be fucked if i was going to do any bodies work in my own
band.
I helped my friend`s band out for a couple of years touring and recording
but i lost interest. I prefer to play my own songs, i`d written them coz i
liked them and wanted to play them, but found myself playing other peoples
songs, it did`nt seem right .
My left arm had been bothering me for over 3 years so i decided to stop
playing and left guitar`s alone for on and off 3 years, only getting back
into playing for real, this year
U.F.-Today, you are back in the band. What led to your re-joining BLITZKRIEG?
Tony-A couple of things made me rejoin Blitzkrieg, firstly, Brian asked
me.
I`d also been getting letters and emails from unhappy Blitzkrieg fans for a
couple of years and 1 or 2 had been asking me to rejoin Blitzkrieg in almost
every email or letter they`d sent me. ( cyberneticdv8r@hotmail.com )
I travel throughout Europe quite alot and sometimes bump into people who
continualy asked me about the Blitzkrieg situation, and after a while i
kinda` got the impression that i did have an effect on some people with my
music.
You see, Brian has always done the Blitzkrieg interviews, we were never
asked to do any. Basicly i think it was coz there had been so many line up
changes, that people did`nt know who was ever in the band, but apart from
Brian, i am the longest serving member and i wrote the most songs.
I`m getting more emails and letters now than i ever had before, and not just
for me, for the band as a whole, so i think the interest in Blitzkrieg is
here again.
I also wanted to proove to myself and other people that i could still do it,
3 year`s with hardly any playing, then to try and write a new album, it`s
some challenge to give your self. Also, the last Blitzkrieg album `The
mist`s of avalon` to me was a very poor album, i did`nt think much of it and
neither did the Blitzkrieg fans. I did`nt want the possibly last Blitzkrieg
album to be that, so, i decided to write one better.
The most important thing for me to rejoin Blitzkrieg is that my kids have
NEVER seen me play, i`m father of 7, I have 2 son`s and 5 daughter`s ranging
from the ages of 6 - 18 and i would like them to see there dad perform to
the best of his ability and it`s something i intend to try and do before i
retire myself and my guitars.
Most of the songs are written by myself and Brian, with 2 songs by Brian and
Paul Nesbitt, but all track`s have some kind of input from the other 2 lads.
I want to make sure that Paul, Andy and Phil get a fare crack of the whip,
get there names mentioned and get credit where credit is due, it`s only
right that it happen`s that way.
U.F.-Has your method/guitar style changed since you left?
Tony-To tell the truth, YES, my attitude to life and music has totaly
changed in the 5 year`s or so since leaving Blitzkrieg. I don`t have time
now for ANYBODY`S bullshit. I think more about the songs. I want my playing
to enhance the song rather than the song enhance my playing. I want to have
good songs on the album as opposed to good guitar part`s. If you want to
hear amazing flashy and impressive guitar trick`s, go and buy a Steve Vai or
a Joe Satriani CD. But if you want to hear good heavy metal songs, buy a
Judas Priest, Black Sabbath/Ozzy, Blitzkrieg CD. So i`d like to say that i`m
thinking more about what i`m playing and writing now and what i think the
real Blitzkrieg fan is wanting to here. I`m trying to get a good balance
with my guitar playing and sound, 50% HEAVY and 50% METAL.....
U.F.-Currently, a new album is being worked on. Is there a title for it yet?
Tony-Yes there is a new album being worked on and it is to be called `Absolute Power. It looks metal, it feel`s metal and it sounds metal.
There`s good heavy metal riffs and guitar solo`s, there`s also songs on
there, songs you can bang your head to and songs you can sing along with,
Some of the new title`s are :
Enchanted Tower
Legion/
We`ll Rock Forever/
Dark City/
Who Takes The Fall/
Metalizer/
DV8R
It`s something were enjoying doing. It`s the album that should of followed
the Unholy Trinity album, which is the bands best recieved product, the
album Brian always get asked about. The line up on the album will be,Lead
vocals : Brian Ross, Lead guitar : Tony J. Liddle, Lead guitar : Paul
Nesbitt, Bass : Andy Galloway, Drums : Phil Brewis there are no ego`s
in this band anymore, there is`nt any room for them. It`s just 5 guy`s
playing metal how we think it should be played by a band using the name,
Blitzkrieg,,, nothing more.
U.F.-What can BLITZKRIEG fans expect from this recording? Will there be any
guest appearances? Will THE BIRD OF ARMAGGEDON be gracing the cover once
again?
Tony-I would like to think that Blitzkrieg fans will see it as the
deffinitive Blitzkrieg album so far. It`s already way heavier than ANYTHING
Blitzkrieg has done before whylst still sounding true to the Blitzkrieg
sound that they know and in some cases love. There is no `album fillers` on
this CD, every song has been worked on again and again to get it how we want
it to sound, it is taking longer than expected, but, we feel that the time
is being used correctly. There will be guest appearances but we dont want to
say now just incase they cant do it for some reason and people will be
dissapointed, we`ll see how it goes. YES the bird will be on the cover, no
Blitzkrieg album should be without it.
U.F.-You also manage another Newcastle band, THE NU-FUTURE COWBOYS. Please
describe their sound and influence.
Tony-The Cowboy`s , there fucking nutz, crazy mutha` fucka`s. There one of
the heaviest band`s ive ever heard, a very modern metal sound but with
load`s of old influence`s. Black Sabbath, Pantera, Alice in chains, Fear
factory. It`s just modern Metal how it should be played and there nice lads.
They have no ego and no other motive than to enjoy playing there own music
and hopefully make a few friends along the way, a cool band and i hope they
go far. http://www.nufuturecowboys.com/
U.F.-How did you hook up with this band?
Tony-3 of the members of the Nu-Future Cowboys were in another band years
ago and i thought they were a good band, but they split up. So i asked the
singer,`Davey, to get me some of there old demo`s as i liked the songs. I
told him that i might of been able to of got them signed if they had stayed
together and that he should think about reforming the band. The next thing i
know is that they have and that there writing new songs, i told them i would
try and find them managment and a recording deal. Then they said ` you
manage us, and you find the deal, we want you to be the boss. Thats about
it, i think there an exellent band and they not only like but, trust me,
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,as easy as that.
U.F.-Is managing a band & playing for BLITZKRIEG hard to do at the same time?
Tony-No,being a father of 7 is hard to do, managing and playing,,,,that`s
fucking easy.
U.F.-Will N.U.F.C. be touring with BLITZKRIEG?
Tony-If we get to do a good tour, yes, we will have them on several
show`s with us, there a great band and i`m trying to line things up now for
2002.
U.F.-Are there any plans for BLITZKRIEG to come to America (come to New
Jersey & I’ll buy you a beer!!!)? Where will you most likely be touring?
Tony-As far as i know, we are playing at the NJ Metal meltdown on April
5th-6th.2002, It`s yet to be 100% confirmed, but it is a reall possibility.
Other than that, i`m in talk`s with several promotors around the world for
gig`s in, Germany at next years Wacken Open Air festival, Holland, Sweden at
the Motala Metal festival, Greece the U.S.A. and Britain.
U.F.-Looking back at your career, is there anything you regret?
Tony-Yes there is,i regret putting up with other peoples
shit for far too long, fake rock stars and ass holes, people who are too
lazy to do there own job and people who will let someone else do there work,
then have the nerve to critisize it, cheats, back stabbers, thieves, time
wasters and egotistical liars who take credit for the efforts of other`s.
But it wont happen
again,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Journo`s, fan`s and the general public have alway`s asked why Blitzkrieg has
failed to deliver 100% of it`s potensial, We are hoping to deliver a 100%
heavy metal Blitzkrieg album. In heavy metal you live and die by your own
devices, it`s time to stop talking and start
delivering,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I don`t have a problem with that.
U.F.-If you could tour with ANY band, who would it be?
Tony-That`s easy,,,,,,,,,Judas Priest/Rob Halford, the best and most
deffinitive heavy metal band. It does`nt get any better than that.
U.F.-BLITZKRIEG released videos: “Ten Years of Blitzkrieg” and another one (I
believe it’s a live performance). Where can a big fan such as myself
purchase these tapes? Oh, and I’ve also scoured this earth searching for a
BLITZKRIEG t-shirt. Where can I get one????….seriously, I’ll pay anything.
Tony-The video`s were something Brian dealt with, there out and about
there somewhere, but not something we do anymore. T-shirts are getting made
now, so everybody will get them from either gig`s or by post, detail`s will
be in the CD sleeve.
U.F.-That’s it, Mr. Liddle. It was an extreme pleasure to get to interview one
of my favorite bands. Hopefully, if BLITZKRIEG does come to America, I will
make it my business to meet you.
Tony-Your welcome ,,anytime,,nice one,,,, Tony J. Liddle (Blitzkrieg)
